The Bay

As a child I could see Morecambe Bay, if I walked to the top of our hill, it was less than 2 miles away as the crow flies. In a straight line across fields, the Lancaster Canal, a major road, and the M6 motorway.

Today I live 30 miles away from my childhood home, yet Morecambe Bay is still ‘just there’ 30 minutes away at the end of our local walk… or 5 minutes in the car to the nearest beach.

Looking through my sketchbook I can see that it has unknowingly become a recurring theme and one that I now want to actively explore.

I have placed it to one side as a full project because, although The Bay naturally comes up in both the Memory and Place projects, it already has a momentum of its own.
