About Me

I thought I should start with a quick introduction.

My name is June and I am an artist from Cumbria, UK. I’m returning to doing artwork after what is really quite a long absence. Long enough that I’m starting by reassessing everything: my style, my subject matter, even the medium in which I am working. It is very much a journey for me, and this website is all about me documenting that journey. At the moment (as I write this) my biggest worry is that I might not be able to get my ideas all the way through to the finished product and it feels a very vulnerable position to find myself in.

During my break I have continued to develop ideas and themes in my sketchbook and I have still moved forward as an artist, so now that I am trying to produce actual finished work I find that I can’t just pick up from where I left off. I have very definitely moved on from there.

My work used to lean towards the conceptual, it used to be more abstract and more sculptural. Some of it still is, but some of it is not, and there is a definite tug of war happening between the two whenever I sit down to work.

I am going to try to not stress the failures too much, because I am sure there will be failures along the way. To enjoy the journey – to see where it leads.
